Why You Need To Post Evergreen Content.
If you’re a content creator, you may have heard people telling you to “Make evergreen content”.
But what’s evergreen content and why should you make it? Hint: it’s got something to do with Christmas. Sort of. Kind of. Not really
👉Evergreen content is the opposite of news or trending content.
What?
In simple terms, it's content that doesn't go out of date. And remains valuable over time. It revolves around topics that stay relevant no matter the season of what's in the news.
So what is it not?
News articles, statistics, content focused on current trends, fashion trends, social media updates, etc.
Why the term “evergreen”?
It comes from the evergreen trees that are often used to decorate your homes during Christmas. The evergreen tree is a symbol f perpetual life because they retain their leaves throughout the seasons, rather than shedding.
The reason why it’s so crucial for your content strategy is because it’s content that stays relevant for a long period with minimal tweaks/updates. This means your content is still relevant for people who are searching for it a year from now on and longer. So you keep attracting a new audience organically with “old” content.
This type of content is crucial if you make a lot of blog posts. But it's useful for any social media platform. Think of Pinterest, YouTube, and Instagram.
This doesn't mean that you should forget about “trendy” content like the newest updates on Instagram. Or hopping on the awesome but sometimes questionable TikTok trends. These also attract a lot of views/engagement/exposure but short-term. A mix of long- and short-term content is what you should aim for.
And how can you use evergreen content on Instagram?
🔹Make a collection of evergreen content in your Guides. This way, it catches people’s eyer right away instead of getting lost between many of your other feed posts
🔹Your story highlights. It’s one of the first things people see when clicking onto your profile and it remains pinned on top.
